Abstract

The main purpose is to demonstrate the Italian presence in Lima between XVIII century and XX century; noticing that its presence can be place since the Spanish conquest. In order to have a full understanding of this immigration process it is necessary to go back to their origins as well as their reasons to settle down in particular places like Lima and Barrios Altos and the mechanisms they used to assimilate and integrate themselves into a new culture.

Doctor en Historia por la Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos. Profesor principal de la Facultad de Ciencias Sociales. Ha desempeñado los cargos de director de la Escuela de Historia, director del Instituto de Investigaciones Histórico-Sociales, jefe del Archivo Histórico “Domingo Angulo”, jefe de la Biblioteca Central de San Marcos y decano de la Facultad de Ciencias Sociales.
