The house of Marshal Ramon Castilla: from imminent demolition to future museum
Abstract
This article analyzes the history of the estate that served as the residence of Grand Marshal Ramon Castilla during his second term as governor, up until his death, when it was sold by his wife. After tracing its various owners from the viceroyalty period to the 20th century, the article examines the architectural transformations it underwent during the latter century, a period marked by profound deterioration and the imminent risk of collapse. This culminated in a proposed restoration project to convert the building into a museum, despite the loss of much of its original structure.
