El Rococo in the architecture of the Royal Palace of Lima
Abstract
The old Royal Palace of Lima was one of the most important buildings of the Peruvian viceroyalty, as it was the royal and symbolic seat of civil power in this part of the world. Destroyed and rebuilt on several occasions, this work focuses on the reconstructive cycle after the earthquake of 1746, focusing on the remodeling carried out during the administration of Viceroy Manuel de Guirior. Through the analysis of the work’s file, contextualized with information on its background and subsequent interventions, it is sought to identify in this intervention the imprint of Rococo art on the architecture of the Royal Palace, as well as its characteristics and implications in the history of the building. Likewise, it makes visible the artists and masters who intervened in this work, which opens up new possibilities of study in the history of art and architecture.
