Mining deposits of Lima in the files of the Mining Court (1780-1906)
Abstract
The present investigation studies small-scale mining and the mining deposits in Lima, based on the files presented in the Mining Court, between the years 1780 and 1906. These documents offer information about this activity and the explorations conducted in the valleys of Lima. The information collected has been compared with other sources from the 19th century. The purpose of this note is to learn about mining activity in the surroundings of Lima, from the end of the viceroyalty to the 20th century. Reading the documents of the Mining Court reveals the interest in developing small-scale mining in a region that had not traditionally been considered of great mineral wealth.
