Abstract

This paper presents an overview of the progress made in researching the connections between the Viceroyalties of Peru and New Spain, as well as the international dynamics influencing them. It examines works produced in Peru, Mexico, and other countries, and proposes a preliminary research agenda relating to these intra-viceregal relationships across political, economic, and cultural domains. Additionally, it offers reflections on comparing the overarching characteristics of Peru’s and Mexico’s independence processes. Lastly, it includes an appendix detailing viceregal documents from Mexico’s National Archive referencing Peru.
