Abstract

El antimperialismo y el Apra is held as Victor Raúl Haya de la Torre’s fundamental work. It has been examined in the framework of the history of the ideas, the philosophy and the ideological debate. In this work we are concerned with a different
aspect: how its author managed to write it and to make it circulate in a context of heavy political repression. We deal with his attitudes towards his own work, the resources and the hándicaps he encountered, and how his entourage either inspired
or discouraged him. The basic source used is the correspondence between Haya de la Torre and Luis Alberto Sánchez, his friend, political fellow and editor, and testimonies by other close relations.
