A serie of paintings of Bernardo Bitti: from Cuzco to Rondocan throught its documentary sources

Abstract

After his arrival to Peru in 1575, Bernardo Bitti S.J. alternated a series of trips between Lima and the South Andeans, to collaborate with the decoration of the churches and establishments in charge of The Society of Jesus. In his second stay in Cuzco, Bitti painted a cycle referred to The main mysteries of the Life, and Death of Christ our savior and the Holy Virgin Mary, his mother, which Bolivian historians José de Mesa and Teresa Gisbert had given as lost, and now recently were found in Saint Thomas Aquinas church, located in Cuzco.
