The printing press of El Mercurio (1862-1865): a publishing company in Lima in the 19th century
Abstract
This article analyzes the trajectory of the printing press of El Mercurio, created by Manuel A. Fuentes to compete with El Comercio. The study of this company, from its foundation in 1862, until its sale to the Peruvian State in 1865, allows us to know the material culture of the Lima presses of the nineteenth century, the commercial strategies that should be undertaken to sustain its economy, and its relationship with the governments.
