Abstract

The aim of this paper is to examine the most relevant archive documents, literature, and images related to María Cusi Huarcay Coya, Beatriz Clara Coya, and Ana María Coya. These coyas or Inca queens exercised the power of their lineage in the viceroyalty of Peru between the second half of the 16th century and the first years of the 17th century. Power is understood as multiple ways in which women with royal rank or dignity formed alliances, above all, through the bond of marriage. This paper also explores the images that were created about the marriages of the Inca descendants and the relationship between the texts and these representations.
